100년이 넘는 역사를 가진 롱 트랙 스피드스케이팅, 1967년에 공인되어 지난 50여년 간

전 세계 스케이팅 팬들의 사랑을 받아온 쇼트트랙, 그리고 근래에 붐을 일으키고 있는 인라인 스피드스케이팅은

지금까지 각 종목별로만 경기를 해왔을 뿐, 선수들은 단 한번도 같은 경기장에서 승부를 겨루어 본 적이 없어서

전 세계 스케이팅 팬들은 각 종목의 최고 선수들이 공정한 룰에 의해서 맞붙어서

세계 스피드 스케이팅의 진정한 왕 중 왕을 가리는 것이 오랜 숙원이었고 이에 부응하여 탄생한 이벤트가 ICE1입니다

ICE1 탄생 배경

ICE1 히스토리

Introduced ICE1 to the President and General Secretary of the International Skating Union (ISU) in Quebec, Canada.
Partnered with the Korean Skating Union (KSU) and US Speed Skating (USS).

Signed a six-year contract with the Dubai government to host ICE1 events as part of the promotion for the 2020 Dubai World Expo.

The ISU intervened in the Dubai ICE1 event and issued a warning of severe sanctions against skaters participating in the event.
Filed a lawsuit against the ISU for breaching EU anti-trust laws. The lawsuit was accepted by the EU Commission, marking the ISU's stance against ICE1.

Won the anti-trust lawsuit against the ISU following the EU Commission’s decision.
The ISU appealed the EU Commission’s decision to the European General Court.

Held the ISU-requested ICE1 Test Run on February 9 at the specially prepared 220m ICE1 ice track at Thialf Stadium, Netherlands, under ISU supervision.
The ISU officially certified the safety of the 220m ICE1 track and the conduct of ICE1 races.

Announcement of the inaugural ICE1 Event, originally scheduled for October, 2020 in the Netherlands, but postponed due to the global Pandemic

The EU General Court ruled in favor of the skaters involved in the lawsuit.
The ISU’s appeal to the European General Court was dismissed, upholding the EU Commission’s 2017 anti-trust ruling.
The ISU subsequently made a final appeal to the Court of Justice of the European Union, the highest court in the EU.

The Court of Justice of the European Union made a final and unappealable verdict in favor of the skaters, affirming their right to compete in ICE1 events. This ruling concluded the decade-long legal battle between ICE1 and the ISU with an ICE1 victory.

Final decision to host the inaugural ICE1 Event in April 2027 in either South Korea or the Netherlands
